Dr. Joshua D. Train is chief engineer for Ground and IT in the Space Systems Group at The Aerospace Corporation. Dr. Train has a broad background in ground systems and information technology. He currently plays a role in shaping the strategy for integrating the ground systems across SMC’s diverse portfolio, and integrating emerging computing technologies into the space domain. He previously served as principal director of the Computer Science and Technology Subdivision and was responsible for developing technical talent, capabilities, and the vision for the corporation in the field of high-performance computing, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence. He also served as chief ground segment engineer of a large multi-segment distributed ground system from architectural conception through the final multi-site installation, leveraging previous experience as a developer and systems engineer supporting a variety of government space programs.
Prior to joining Aerospace, Dr. Train was a senior network systems engineer working on TSAT and Department of Defense GIG programs for Linquest Corporation. Outside of Department of Defense experience, he also has held several positions in which he was responsible for developing cloud software and designing networks for various commercial companies and startups.
Education
Dr. Train earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from Biola University, a master’s degree in electrical engineering at the University of Southern California (USC), and a Ph.D. in computer engineering at USC.
